2018 Silver Beaver Recipients!

The Winnebago Council, Boy Scouts to award highest adult honor to six individuals

 

The Winnebago Council of the Boy Scouts of America has recently announced the 2018 recipients of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. This award is the highest adult recognition given by the local council to honor and recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves by rendering noteworthy service of an exceptional character to youth from within and outside of the BSA within the 17-county service area of the Winnebago Council.

 

The Winnebago Council BSA Silver Beaver Class of 2018 includes:

 

Jeff Haugen- Jeff is a noted Scoutmaster and ardent community leader throughout the Forest City area. He has served as Scoutmaster of Troop 1418 since 2008, and has witnessed numerous Scouts obtain the rank of Eagle. Unit leaders from across the area rely on Jeff for his advice and suggestions.  Jeff is also engaged in efforts to support military veterans, his local community’s festival, and an active member of his church community.

Jeff Johnson- Active Scouter Jeff’s proudest Scouting accomplishment is being witness to his three sons obtaining the Eagle Scout Award. He has made it his Scouting work to assist dozens of Scouts across the Cedar Falls and Waterloo area complete their requirements for Eagle. Jeff served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for the 2005 National Scout Jamboree. Outside of Scouting, he is a devoted member of his church and served as an officer of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Dan Levi- Dan has made it his life mission to give back to the community, being focused on the true need. He has a wonderful time growing up in the BSA programs, and now gets to share that experience with his son. Dan currently is the Council Board President, assuming the position since July 2016. Outside of Scouting, he is working to revitalize the East Waterloo neighborhood, and gives generously of his time and talents to Exceptional Persons Incorporated and to his church.

Sharon McRae- Sharon demonstrates cheerful service throughout the Cedar Valley as the district vice chair for membership, ensuring every young person has the ability to join the BSA. She was a driving force for the longevity of Pack and Troop 55 in Cedar Falls. She has also taken an interest in promoting the Philmont Scout Ranch as one of its ambassadors.

Michelle Peterson- Michelle began her service to Scouting through her sons and their journey to obtaining the Eagle Scout Award. Her passion for equine activities ensued a decade plus of volunteer service with the Ingawanis Horse Program, with recent responsibilities as the herd boss. She has instructed dozens of Scouts through the Horsemanship Merit Badge program, setting the stage a lifelong appreciation and respect for horses.

Ron Steele- Ron has given his live to service to youth throughout the entire state of Iowa. He has given decades of volunteerism to Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish, the Cedar Valley United Way, and have worked to provide a permanent home for over 200 young people through Iowa’s Child.

 

 

These recipients will be recognized during the Boy Scout’s annual meeting and recognition event to be held on Thursday, June 28 at Wartburg College beginning at 6:00 PM. All are welcome to attend.
