The Winnebago Council Contingent to the National Scout Jamboree

The Winnebago Council will again have a large contingent to the 2013 National Jamboree to be held at the brand-new Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia. Dates of the Jamboree are July 15-24, 2013. Scouts will need to be at least 12 years old by July 15, 2013 and not reaching their 18th birthday by July 24, 2013. For the first time ever, the Venturing program will be involved in the National Jamboree. Venturers must have graduated 8th grade or be at least 14 years old by July 15, 2013, but have not reached their 21st birthday by July 24, 2013. Any registered male or female Venturer may participate.

The Summit” is the Boy Scouts of America’s brand-new fourth high-adventure base joining Philmont, Northern Tier, and the Florida Sea Base in the Scouting family. The 10,000 acre property is next to the New River Gorge National River area in West Virginia. Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Bouldering, Mountain Biking, Skateboarding, BMX, Shooting Sports, and a special Zip-line challenge course are included in addition to the merit badge midway where you can work on all of the merit badges offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Each participant will have a personal, programmable hand-held device which will contain all program data, entertainment information, and contain all jamboree communications.
