Lakeland District News - December 2008

Popcorn sales are almost over! All monies are due to the council by Friday Dec. 5th!

Scout Night with the North Iowa Outlaws will be Sat. Dec. 6th. The game starts at 7:30 at the Mason City Fairgrounds. Tickets are $4 for scouts and $6 for adults. PLEASE get your reservation list to me by Wed. Dec. 3rd AND your check! Make the check out to the Winnebago Council. I will write one check for everyone. I need to have the list out to them by Thursday morning. Plan to have all the scouts and leaders in uniform. Please encourage your units to participate and encourage the scouts to attend. This really will be a fun evening and how great it will be to show the public that the Boy/Cub Scout programs are strong here in North Iowa!! Please pass the word around!

More training for leaders! We’ll be offering New Leader Essentials and Cub Scout Leader Specifics on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7th, in Mason City, location TBD. NLE will be from 1:00 – 3:00 and CS Spec. will be from 3:00 – 5:00. Call Carol to register. If any of you are thinking about doing Woodbadge next fall, you will need to have these trainings done. Remember New Leader Essentials is also for Boy Scout and Venturing leaders, not just for Cub Scouts!! We’ll be offering Scoutmaster Specifics and Committee training during the Merit Badge College on Sat. March 7th in Clear Lake. There will be a Scouter Development Training Conference Feb. 21st in Charles City.

The next opportunity for Baloo and OSI will be in the spring…OSI for Boy Scout leaders is May 15 – 17 and BALOO for Cub Scout leaders is May 16th. This will be held at Camp Ingawanis in Waverly.

These trainings are NOT just for leaders hoping to take Woodbadge. These are for ALL leaders!! Really, please, please encourage your leaders to get trained. I promise it will make their jobs easier and your pack and dens and troops will benefit GREATLY from having trained leaders! Don’t you think your Scouts deserve to have trained leaders?

Our December Roundtable will be on the 9th. This is an important one as it’s PARTY NIGHT!! Bring as many of your leaders as possible and bring a dish to share! (District Chairman Mark says "Nothing diet or fat free, please!") We’ll also have a short meeting for anyone interested in helping with the Lakeland District Pinewood Derby. (Date is Sat. April 4th.) If you’d like to share your input on that event, this is the time! 7:30 at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Don’t for our District Committee Meeting, at 6:30!

I need to hear from each unit about dates for your Blue and Gold Banquets and Court Of Honors. Hopefully, you have these dates already in your calendars!

Are you filling out your forms for the 2008 Centennial Quality Unit Awards? Contact Fred Fox or Carol Meyer about doing this if you haven’t already!
