Ranks, Awards and Badges Oh My!
One of the greatest experiences in a Scout’s journey is being awarded a Rank, Award or adding a Merit Badge patch to their sash. Cub Scouts love to slide their belt loops on! When it comes time to recording these achievements and purchasing the items at a Scout Shop, there are a few things to keep in mind!
- Internet Advancement is a GREAT tool for Units who like to keep track of a Scout’s journey!
- After a leader enters in a Scout’s rank, award or merit badge
- It shows up instantly on that Scout’s profile
- A purchase list is created automatically for Units to take to the Scout shop
You can learn more about Internet Advancement here!
- After a leader enters in a Scout’s rank, award or merit badge
- For Units who prefer to do paper Advancement Forms
- Make sure ALL necessary blanks are filled, signatures collected, names spelled correctly (do not use nick names!), dates of advancement/Board of Review/award are recorded on the form BEFORE turning the Advancement Form or visiting the Scout Shop
- If these items are not complete, the advancement cannot be recorded, and recognition items cannot be purchased
You can download a fillable PDFAdvancement Form here!
Pay special attention to these areas!

3.Most awards have specific applications, these awards must be recorded on the correct award application, all required signatures collected and dates filled out. Make sure all pages of the application are completed BEFORE turning in the application to the Council or purchasing awards.
- If these items are not complete, the award cannot be recorded, and awards/ recognition items cannot be purchased
